Location: Deanshanger Hedgehog Rescue
Commitment: Minimum of 3 shifts per month
Shift Duration: 2-3 hours per shift
Shift Times: Morning or Afternoon
Job Description
​Deanshanger Hedgehog Rescue is dedicated to the care, rehabilitation, and release of injured, sick, and orphaned hedgehogs. As a Hedgehog Helper, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of these vulnerable creatures. This role is physically demanding and requires a compassionate, detail-oriented individual who is passionate about wildlife care.

Key Responsibilities:

Cleaning and Maintenance:

Clean and sanitize cages, enclosures, and surrounding areas to maintain a hygienic environment.

Ensure that the sheds and work areas are kept clean, tidy, and organized.

Animal Care:

Weigh hedgehogs regularly to monitor their health and growth.

Conduct basic health checks under supervision, including inspecting for injuries, parasites, or signs of illness.

Assist with feeding and hydration according to specific care plans.

Stock Management:

Replenish food, bedding, and medical supplies as needed.

Monitor stock levels and inform the coordinator of any shortages.

Admissions Support:

Help with the intake of new hedgehog admissions, including initial health checks and record-keeping.

Assist in settling new arrivals into appropriate enclosures.

General Duties:

Work closely with the team to ensure that all hedgehogs receive the best care possible.

Report any concerns regarding the hedgehogs’ health or environment to the supervisor immediately.

Support other tasks as needed to ensure the smooth operation of the rescue.

Requirements

Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including bending, lifting, and working in low or confined spaces.

Reliability: Consistent attendance and commitment to a minimum of 3 shifts per month.

Attention to Detail: Strong observational skills to monitor hedgehog health and cleanliness.

Compassion: A genuine love for animals and a commitment to their welfare.

Team Player: Ability to work effectively within a small team and follow instructions carefully.
